Seeking an LGBTQ-friendly tech community? Try one of these Python conferences (2025)
Heya - it’s Matt (they/them) from Melbourne, Australia, one of Remote Queer's writers and co-founders. I’ve been working as a Linux systems administration for over 15 years, and I’m here to dispel the notion that working in tech is just for straight white tech bros vibe-coding with ChatGPT.
Python is one of the world's most popular programming languages, and has a huge and vibrant community of coders from all walks of life. One of Python's biggest draw cards is how easy it can be to learn, especially for English-speakers, due to the similarity of the programming language's syntax to English.
Aside from its ease of use, another appeal of Python is its community. The Python Software Foundation puts a lot of effort into things like their codes of conduct, which must be upheld in places such as the official discussion forum. They also require that any event under the "PyCon" brand must have a code of conduct, and be approved by the foundation. These codes of conduct ensure the community is a safe place for everyone, including marginalised folks: people of colour, of all genders or orientations, disabled people, and more.
Today we've got a huge list of Python conferences that are taking place around the world in 2025 and 2026. I’ve been to several of them and have even spoken at a few. Many of them are located in popular remote work and travel destinations, so there's a good chance there's one close to you!
North Bay Python

North Bay Python is a cute little Python conference hosted in Petaluma, California. They get around 100 annual attendees, and since the COVID pandemic began, they have made a significant effort to accommodate immune-compromised folks though a strong health and safety policy, including hosting the event in an open-air barn and encouraging attendees to mask up. All of the core organising team are either queer or queer-friendly, and their YouTube channel has all their previous talks if you'd like to see what sort of topics they cover. I have attended and spoken at North Bay Python once, back in 2023.
While their website hasn't been updated yet, they've already posted their 2026 conference dates on their Bluesky and Mastodon accounts.
